Timo Werner admitted that his bond with Chelsea and German colleague Kai Havertz is gaining strength by the day.

Speaking to the club website, Werner explained how his and Havertz’s friendship on and off the field has flourished.

Both arrived from the Bundesliga last summer for large fees, with the expectation they were to take Frank Lampard’s side to a new level.


Unfortunately, neither managed to instantly hit the ground running.

Havertz contracted covid quite early on into his Stamford Bridge career, which took a blow to the 22-year-old’s confidence.

Werner meanwhile struggled to find consistency in front of goal, something he was unused to during his time at RB Leipzig.

Thomas Tuchel’s arrival revived the two international teammates to a degree.


But there is a feeling the pair have plenty more to give this season.

Bundesliga buddies

Riding on the wave of optimism surrounding Chelsea at the moment, Werner shared how he and Hav hiertz had been developing their kinship.

“It feels like our relationship is growing together,” said the speedy forward.

“Of course, we speak the same language, we are good friends, so it’s not unusual we have a good relationship, but now we can show it on the pitch.


“At the beginning of the season we both had our own problems, so we couldn’t watch the other one, but now both of us can handle it very good and can look out for each other.

“On the pitch, mainly it’s me to him at the moment, and that’s no problem!

“We just want to win and it really doesn’t matter who scores the goals.”

The duo demonstrated their partnership perfectly against Arsenal last weekend.

Chelsea’s opener was carved about by the Germans; Werner’s incisive pass was finished off calmly by Havertz.


It is a combination Tuchel will hope to wield to its full potential in the next eight months or so.

Add in the potential arrival of Romelu Lukaku and the Blues attack could be the meanest in world football.
